title: From TACO (Trump Always Chickens Out) to WACO (World Always Chickens Out)
description: "The world has \"chickened out\" against Trump, per FT.\n\n\"America’s trading partners have largely failed to retaliate against Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs, allowing a president taunted for “always chickening out” to raise nearly $50bn in extra customs revenues at little cost.\n\nFour months since Trump fired the opening salvo of his trade war, only China and Canada have dared to hit back at Washington imposing a minimum 10 per cent global tariff, 50 per cent levies on steel and aluminium, and 25 per cent on autos.\n\nAt the same time US revenues from customs duties hit a record high of $64bn in the second quarter — $47bn more than over the same period last year, according to data published by the US Treasury on Friday\"."

#### From TACO (Trump Always Chickens Out) to WACO (World Always Chickens Out)

The world has "chickened out" against Trump, per FT. "America’s trading partners have largely failed to retaliate against Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs, allowing a president taunted for “always chickening out” to raise nearly $50bn in extra customs revenues at little cost. Four months since Trump fired the opening salvo of his trade war, only China and Canada have dared to hit back at Washington imposing a minimum 10 per cent global tariff, 50 per cent levies on steel and aluminium, and 25 per cent on autos. Then the attacks resumed. Combined exports from Saudi Arabia, Iraq, the UAE, Kuwait, Iran, Qatar and Oman tell the story: ▪️ Jan–Feb: 18.9 million barrels/day ▪️ May trough: 6.5 million — down 66% ▪️ September: 14.7 million ▪️ October so far: 17.3 million — 91% of pre-war levels The recovery relied on ingenuity: Saudi pipelines diverted crude to the Red Sea, while shuttle tankers carried barrels through Hormuz to supertankers waiting outside. But the cumulative damage remains enormous: 1.7 billion fewer barrels exported between March and September than at the pre-war pace. And October’s rebound is fragile. ⚠️ The figures cover only the first two weeks. Six ships were hit around Hormuz on 11 October. More than 10 empty supertankers have turned back near Fujairah. Export routes can adapt. A sustained recovery still requires security. Source: Jack Prandelli on X, Gulf News

Headline inflation jumped to 3.7% year-on-year in September, its highest level since May. Rising gasoline and diesel prices drove much of the increase. Higher airfares and used-car prices added pressure, pushing monthly inflation to 0.6%, the biggest gain since May. Even excluding food and energy, the picture deteriorated. Core inflation rose to 2.6%, up from 2.4% in August and above expectations. The squeeze on households is clear: prices rose 3.7% over the past year, outpacing average wage growth of 3%.
